November 2019 – DMAMA paper describes ankle control in walking and running

A paper introducing a new metric of ankle control, the Dynamic Mean Ankle Moment Arm (DMAMA) was accepted for publication in the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering. This paper investigates how ankle control differs in walking vs. running and presents a new conceptual model and outcome measure (DMAMA) to characterize this behavior. DMAMA is similar to the weighted-average center of pressure (WACOP), also introduced in this paper. One long-term application is to use DMAMA and WACOP to control prosthetic feet and ankles and evaluate their performance.

Thank you to Luke Steinbach and Chris Nguyen for the data collection and initial analysis!
